A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian worked at WAMC/Northeast Public Radio from 2008 until 2025, serving as News Director for more than a dozen. His reporting and interviews were broadcast in parts of seven states and via podcast, and his radio reporting has aired on NPR.

A freelance sports reporter for the Associated Press starting in 2004, Ian’s sports journalism has also appeared in The Saratogian and the Troy Record.

He holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013. He joined New York State government in a communications role in 2025.
